A building should grow kinder with time. Notes on durability, repair and the courage to build less.
Most buildings are designed for the photograph taken on the day they open. We try to design for the photograph taken a century later.
Build less, build well
Durability starts with restraint. Fewer materials, simpler junctions and generous proportions leave room for life to happen — and for future owners to adapt what we leave behind.
Repair as a design brief
Every detail we draw is tested against one question: can a local craftsperson repair this in fifty years with ordinary tools? If the answer is no, we draw it again.
